Sisters in Jazz Day

Join industry professionals Jodi Proznick and Amanda Tosoff in this welcoming online environment to explore jazz for a day with special guest Heather Bambrick: the rhythms, improvisation, composition and the women who’ve brought magnificence to this popular genre of music.
We will celebrate and encourage girls, women, trans women and non-binary music lovers in a supportive space with virtual workshops and conversations designed for students, teachers and beginner/intermediate level musicians aged 13 to 103. If you have 2+ years’ experience on vocals or an instrument—or just a curiosity about the nuts and bolts of jazz music—then this event is for you!
Creativity Station: Getting Started with Jazz Composition

Amanda Tosoff and Jodi Proznick will be co-leading this workshop to explore how to get started with jazz composition! The purpose of this workshop is to introduce the basic concepts of jazz composition and how to go about different creativity provocations open up creative compositional play. Through a variety of games and exercises, Amanda and Jodi will cover important concepts for developing composition skills such as using basic blues and AABA forms, contrafacts and ostinatos.
Beginning Jazz Piano

Join JUNO nominated, and award winning jazz pianist, composers, and educator Amanda Tosoff as she walks you though the building blocks of beginner jazz piano. By the end of this workshop you’ll be armed with the common jazz chords, melodic embellishment techniques, and rhythms, to be able to play through a jazz standard to be chosen as a group!
